Sights of Mahmutlar
Within the area of Mahmutlar, you will find the remains of two ancient cities. Leatres-leatri, 850m high in the mountains and Naula, somewhat east of downtown Mahmutlar. For those who just want to learn the ancient history these places are worth visiting. Leatres-Leatri (source: Municipality Mahmutlar & Antalya) goes back in time to ancient Rome 44 BC. and the Byzantine period. According to tradition, this town discovered by Claudius.
The main remaining ruins of the city, Cacicella excedra, Agora Basilica, Temple of Apollo, Odeon, the Emperor Street and observation towers.
For the construction they made use of a part marble and limestone, which is really a product from this region. Today it is known that in relation to this city, coins were minted in the name of Troy and the emperor Herennia Etruscill. There are churches, baths, reservoirs, houses, a theater and worship places, but unfortunately they are all in poor condition. The remainder next to the stadium is the center of a church with his side nave and there one finds the remains of red and light blue frescoes.
The numerous inscriptions and reliefs of the claws of an eagle and ox heads can be seen here and take us far back in history. Accordenly to the inscriptions wich are still there, people lived here in the period between the 1st and 3rd centuries. The temples that the city had between these centuries are Zeus, Apollo and Caesar.

The ordinary shops are as we know from home but now n and then you can sometimes succeed to pay less than the price tag indicates. But more of this kind of stores will also open their doors in Mahmutlar.
Sports and games
As in the rest of Turkey soccer here is in the first place. Mahmutlar has many beautiful footballfields and many footballers. Therefore, you might rather see a picture of another popular sport.
You are a quieter type? Then you might feel more of the men sitting around playing cards or backgammon and other games.
Activities
For the active tourist, there is much to do in Mahmutlar. Do what the locals do?
Walking in the woods
Do you enjoy the fresh, pure air and the scent of pines in a quiet forest? Well, then put on your walking shoes because if you want you can walk for hours. Take a backpack and listen to the birds and insects during your lunch break.
Mountain Tours
Behind us is the Taurus Mountains. Here are the beginning of the mountains and they continue through to Georgia. The last mountaintop in eastern Turkey is Ararat. The highest peak is 2339 m and are called Karacali. Some of you have to climb this high to experience the true freedom.
In the winter we ski or take a sled to the mountains. Bring along a small barbecue, food and drink and enjoy a real Turkish picnic in the snow. And on a thrilling hot summer day is also a good place to cool down.
Fishing (river and sea)
Dolphins appear regularly in the sea but anyway you will prefer to fish tuna. We would like to keep our dolphins, sometimes they even sing to us. Squid / octopus is very popular with the Turkish population but more likely you are into catching Cupra (bass), Levrek (sea trout) and Mercan (red coral fish).
Very nice either fried or grilled. Fortunately, there is still plenty fish in the river or the sea. Remember to take along a portable grill, nothing tastes nicer than to immediately eat your own freshly caught, grilled trout.
